A suspect who is believed to be the person who stole Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C., law enforcement sources told News4 and NBC News.

A second person is being still being sought, the same law enforcement sources told News4 and NBC News.

The suspect in custody is in the country illegally, Interim US Attorney for the District of Columbia Ed Martin told News4. Martin said the other suspect being sought is also in the country illegally.

Organizers said they are moving a week’s worth of events for World Pride DC away from the Kennedy Center, saying they didn’t have another choice as they try to protect the LGBTQ+ community.

A representative for Capital Pride Alliance confirmed The Tapestry of Pride at the Kennedy Center has been canceled. The events were billed as a “celebration of diversity and unity.”

The Associated Press first reported the events scheduled from June 5 to June 8 have been quietly canceled or moved to other venues.

Federal worker layoffs and uncertainty over policy changes under the Trump administration have caused D.C. to lose its top “Aaa” credit rating with Moody’s Ratings.

Moody’s, one of the three major bond rating agencies, announced Wednesday it downgraded D.C.’s rating to “Aa1” and changed its outlook to “negative.” Fitch Ratings and S&P Global Ratings are also watching D.C. for a possible downgrade.

It’s the latest financial blow to the nation’s capital, which is already facing a $1.1 billion budget crisis created when the Republican-controlled House of Representatives eliminated a little-known provision in a budget resolution. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has said the city will have to make devastating cuts to programs and services if the House doesn’t pass a fix soon.

Nine people were killed and multiple injured when a driver plowed into a crowd at a street festival in Vancouver, Canada, Saturday night, police said.

The driver was in custody following the crash on East 41st Ave. and Fraser Street shortly after 8:14 p.m. local time, the Vancouver Police Department said in a post on X.

It said that nine people had died in the incident in a separate post on X Sunday, adding, “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident.”
